Visiting Edgar

When E’ni’cala leaves for the evening, Vesta insists on walking her back to the Guild of Light. The thought of returning to her empty vardo makes her chest tighten, so she begins walking towards the manor portal instead.

 She curtsies to the guards as she approaches, smoothing her expression into something composed.

"Good evening. I'm here to visit Sir Edgar."

There are two guards posted by the portal as usual. They are chatting with one another until they notice Vesta approaching. As soon as they see her, they stop talking and straighten, putting hands on their swords but not drawing them.

"Good evening, ma'am." The guard to the right of the portal says. "Unfortunately, that won't be possible. The portal is locked. No one goes in."

The other guard stares at Vesta silently.

Vesta’s brow knits together, the composure she’d put on beginning to fray around the edges. 

“Oh. I… I didn’t know.”  

The words come softer than she intends. For a fleeting second she simply stands there, hands hovering uselessly at her sides. She shifts awkwardly, eyes flicking to anywhere but the guards. 

“Sorry for disturbing you, then.”

 With that, she turns on her heel. She folds her arms tight against her chest, and her head dips, silvery curls spilling forward to shield her expression. Without another word, she begins walking in the direction of her vardo, eyes fixed firmly to the ground.

The guard on the left clears his throat. "I know you. I can let him know you came to see him. Next time I see him anyways. But I'm not sure when that will be to be totally honest."

The guard on the right dips his head to her. "Have a good evening, ma'am."

The guard on the left releases the pommel of his sword and relaxes his arms at his side again. "Safe travels, miss."

They watch her go and then return to their conversation.
