Saige peeks out from behind Storm again, hands still clasped together in front of her.
“I’m sorry Vesta! I’ll buy you and Tristan new clothes, but…”
Her eyes drop for a moment before she speaks again.
“That’s just how we grew up! We only ever went to town once a year. I’m still trying to get used to how things work here. It’s… weird.”
She pauses.
“Maybe being around the orcs will help. Maybe they’ll get used to people who aren’t family. It’s always just been us.”
Saige’s voice wavers, a little quieter now.
“Family is all we’ve ever had, we don’t fit in anywhere else. And we can’t go home. It’s gone.”
