Buttons and Bones

“Maybe soon…” Saige mumbles, but seems distracted. "We'd have to tell Miquella it's for work but I don't think anyone would want to join the Guild. Maybe Anise? Or Lavender."

As the sun starts to come up, Saige grumbles, annoyed. She pulls her knees up in the seat and gets her parasol out, and moves to sit as close to Storm as she can. She holds the parasol above them and buries her face in Storm’s shoulder.

“Why does the sun have to be so bright… What do you think the sun is anyway? Like, a giant lemon? Because it burns your eyes? Did they put a light spell on a giant lemon? Who keeps casting the light spell every day? Is there a secret society that keeps the sun going?”

"You know... I've never given it much thought. Maybe it is a giant lemon with a light spell cast on it. I kinda always assumed it had something to do with the plane of light anyways." Storm glances down at Saige and smiles. "Ya know, if it'd make you more comfortable you can climb in the back and snuggle under the blankets? Don't get me wrong. I don't mind being a shoulder for you at all. It's kinda nice really. I just know the sun really bothers you."

“But you said that it would be better if we were both up here for the bandits, so I will stay here. I need to get used to it, anyway.” Saige sighs. “It’s not like it hurts, it’s just really annoying. Like soup.”

She starts humming a tune as they continue traveling. After a while, she speaks up again.

“So… Did you join the Guild of Light because that’s what Stella wanted to do but never got to?”

She flinches but smiles. "Yeah. Pretty much. I did want to settle down some roots. I just figured honoring her memory would be a good way to do it." She tilts her head. "Why do you have an aversion to joining the guild? Especially since Miquella is your brother and runs the joint?"

“Sorry. That was a bit rude to ask, wasn’t it? It’s nice that you’re honoring her memory though.”

Saige stares at the road for a minute.

“I’m terrified of screwing up. I’m not the most… intelligent person. I tend to make decisions that are fun and don’t consider the consequences. I don’t agree with this whole thing that some people are more important than others. I just want to make friends, and have fun, and help people sometimes. You saw how Miquella reacted to me becoming a vampire. I’m scared that one day I’ll screw up so badly that no one can fix it, and I don’t want it to reflect on anyone but myself.”

"Aw. Hey. I don't mind you asking personal questions. It's all good. We're friends afterall. I hope my question wasn't... I didn't mean for it to be rude or anything." Storm slouches a little. "I get that. Mistakes are heavy burdens. It was my fault my friends died. Shit haunts me still." She lightly nudges Saige. "I don't think you've got anything to worry about. There are a lot of people looking out for you. A lot of people who care about you. And the people who truly love us, stick around through thick and thin. Look at Miquella. He may have an issue with the vampire thing but he didn't abandon you. He just had to work through his own issues and he did, right?"
