"Oh, thank you!" Vesta fiddles with her fingers before pulling her rune bag from her side. "Stars, yes. Cards, bones, bread sometimes. Mostly my runes though. They're pretty trustworthy. I'm working on making a shell set right now! I found a bunch of pretty abalone shells when we visited Carmarthen."

She dumps a handful of her stones into her palm and holds them out for Selena to see.

Selena looks over the stone carefully, not touching them, then smiles at Vesta. "Very nice. How do you read bread? Kind of like tea leaves? Do you have any skill at reading objects? Like seeing where they've been and who's touched them? Do you have visions or just what your tools tell you?"

Edgar watches Selena as she's studying the runes, then turns his attention back to helping Zinna when she elbows him in the ribs and whispers something to him in tovi.

"Oh! Reading bread is super easy, see I have this basket, and I usually fill it up with different kinds of breads and rolls. Whoever I'm reading chooses a bread, and that already tells me stuff. And then how they break the bread, do they tear it in half? A piece from the end? Not at all? When they take a bite do they take large bites or small? It's a whole process. Doesn't tell me much though."

Vesta laughs.

"As for objects and visions, I can. I try, but most of them happen by accident. I'm working on it though. Trying to get better at it. Granny doesn't like when I try to use the sight. So I use my runes."

Selena smiles at the explanation of bread reading, then tilts her head in question again at the mention of not using the sight. "May I ask why? Do it too much and it triggers uncontrollable visions and nightmares? Or just the inherent risk of what magic you might catch during the vision?"

Vesta winces a little and shakes her head.

"Ah, no, not exactly. You see, my mother was very gifted with the sight. When I was a child, she saw something that was too much for her, and... ended the suffering." Vesta rubs her hands together uncomfortably. "I don't remember it very well. I was young. Granny fears that I'll have the same fate."

Selena's demeanor softens more as Vesta tells her story. "Oh... yeah. That... I'm sorry to bring that up. And I understand. Meditation helps a lot with controlling the visions. A rested mind makes it easier to navigate. For me anyway."

Selena reaches up to touch her hair, but quickly puts her hand back down to the pommel of her sword, rubbing her thumb over it absentmindedly. "And having someone that can help me figure out what's real and what's not when I get really bad ones. And having someone that can pull me out and heal me if I get stuck in a vision.... So what does your Granny want you to do about the visions? Since we're stuck with them. If she doesn't want you to practice."
